Organizer guide
Get people to your event
You did the hard part: planning it. These five steps make sure Kane County hears about it. They're free and take about 15 minutes, start to finish.
1 Post it on Citizen Kane
One post here does a lot of the work for you:
- Google: your event page is built so Google can show it in its event results, for searches like “things to do in Kanab this weekend.”
- The Monday Digest: it goes into the weekly email of everything happening that week.
- Instagram and Facebook: Citizen Kane's weekly and daily posts include it, and tag your venue's Instagram when we have it.
- One tap for people: add it to their calendar, get directions, find your ticket link.
Make it easy to say yes: a clear title (what and where, like “Fall Chili Cook-off at Jacob Hamblin Park”), start and end times, the cost, and a photo or your flyer. If it repeats, set it up once as a recurring event.
2 Share your Citizen Kane link to local Facebook groups
Facebook groups are still where most people here hear about things. Share the link to your Citizen Kane event page there, not just a photo of the flyer:
- Open your event on Citizen Kane and copy the address from your browser (on a phone, tap Share, then Copy).
- In each group, start a post with one or two friendly sentences, paste the link, and add your photo.
Why our link: it works for people who aren't on Facebook, it doesn't scroll away, and it has the calendar, map and ticket buttons. If anything changes, you fix it in one place and every share is up to date.
3 Make a Facebook event, and link the two
If you use Facebook, a Facebook event lets people mark “Interested” and invite friends.
- In Facebook, go to Events, then Create event.
- Paste your Citizen Kane link in the event's description.
- Copy the Facebook event's link (on a phone: Share, then Copy link; on a computer: the address bar).
- On Citizen Kane, open your dashboard, edit the event, and paste it into Facebook event link. Your event page then shows a Facebook icon.
4 Have a business? Add it to your Google Business Profile
If your business has a Google Business Profile (the box with your hours and reviews on Google), add the event there too. It shows on your profile until the event is over.
- Search Google for your business name while signed in to the account that manages it.
- Choose Add update, then Event.
- Add the title, dates and a photo, and set the button to Learn more with your Citizen Kane link.
5 Hang a flyer with a QR code
Plenty of people here still find out from the boards at the post office, the library and the grocery store. Put a QR code on your flyer that opens your Citizen Kane page, so a phone camera takes people straight to the details.
- On a computer in Chrome, open your event page, click the share icon in the address bar, and choose Create QR code.
- Any free QR code maker works too. Point it at your Citizen Kane event link.
Before the day
- Plans change? Update the Citizen Kane event. Everyone who shared the link sees the new details.
- Post regularly and your events start going live right away, without waiting for review.
